A warm, welcoming Church of England community in the Monkmoor area of Shrewsbury since 1939.
We are committed to meaningful worship that connects people with God through prayer, music, and the sacraments.
We believe in building a loving community that supports one another and reaches out to those in need.
We are dedicated to helping people of all ages grow in their faith through study, prayer, and spiritual practices.
St. Peter's Church was consecrated in 1939—just ahead of the outbreak of the Second World War. The land
was purchased by the Diocese of Lichfield in the mid-1930s with the vision of establishing a Mission
Church to serve the growing residential areas of Underdale and Monkmoor.
Designed with a modest footprint, the church can accommodate up to 100 people when full. In 1982, a new
Parish Hall was built on the same site, replacing a former wooden scout hut previously managed by the
church committee. Together, the church and hall form a vibrant spiritual and community centre.
St. Peter's serves a diverse local population, including areas that are considered socially and
economically disadvantaged. The church is surrounded by five nearby schools—including primary,
secondary, and special educational needs institutions—highlighting its place at the heart of the
community.
On Sundays, our worship services typically welcome around 30 congregants, and our extended ministry is
supported by a committed team of approximately 70 local volunteers.
We welcome everyone to join our church community. Whether you're new to the area, exploring faith, or looking for a church home, we'd love to meet you.
